MARIVELES, Bataan: This town held a “Buntis” congress capped on
Saturday by a “Buntis Pageant” where 15 pregnant women
participated at the Mariveles People’s Park in the poblacion.
The pregnant candidates danced and introduced
themselves to the judges composed of obstetricians, health
physicians, Mariveles Mayor Jessie Concepcion and his wife, Dr.
Cleotilde Concepcion; personnel officer Mary Adolfo and some others.
The crowd, which included other pregnant
mothers, roared as candidates presented themselves on stage. One
candidate even said that being a mother is like being a hero.
The congress, already on its third year, is a
project of the municipal health office under Dr. Danilo Velasco,
municipal health physician, who explained that the activity sought
to promote maternal and child health care.
“Ang pagdadalang-tao ay hindi dapat itago o
ikahiya kaya nagpapasalamat kami sa 15 kandidatang buntis na
naging katulong namin sa promosyon ng tamang pagbubuntis [Pregnancy
need not be a source of embarrassment or something that must be kept
from others, which is why we are grateful that we have 15 candidates
participating in our pageant and helping in our campaign to promote
proper pregnancy],” the health officer said.
He announced that three obstetricians from
Maheseco, a cooperative of health workers in Mariveles, would be
assisting indigent pregnant women in their pregnancy.
