CABANATUAN CITY: Some 45,405 public school pupils from 19 Nueva
Ecija towns stand to benefit from the “Food for School Program”
that was launched over the weekend, a ranking food grains official
said on Tuesday.
Edelino Alejandro, National Food Authority
provincial manager, said the agency teamed up with the Department of
Education and the local government units to implement the program.
The measure, also called hunger mitigation
program, provides for the creation of the Anti-Hunger Task Force
that involves various government agencies, Alejandro said.
The program was an offshoot of Social Weather
Station surveys that indicate a large number of Filipinos experience
hunger.
Genoveva Villar, assistant provincial manager,
identified the participating LGUs as Aliaga, Zaragosa, Sto. Domingo,
Licab, Quezon, Guimba, Bongabon, Palayan City, Natividad, Gabaldon,
Laur, Talavera, Llanera, Cuyapo, Cabiao, Jaen, San Antonio, Talugtog,
and Carrangalan.
There are 465 public schools and 540 daycare
centers involved in the program where Grade One pupils and
pre-elementary toddlers will be given a kilo of rice each time they
attend their classes.
