The number of foreign tourist arrivals grew 7.8
percent to 293,803 in January, the Department of Tourism (DOT) said
Tuesday.
The DOT said Korean nationals
topped arrivals, contributing about 23.7 percent of the total
traffic or 69,522 arrivals.
The US market followed with
58,486, capturing 19.9 percent; Japan, 34,432; China, 13,691; and
Australia, 11,218.
Other markets with
substantial contribution were Canada, 11,017; Taiwan, 9,618;
Singapore, 7,429; United Kingdom, 7,200 and Hong Kong, 7,084.
In 2007, the country attracted
3.1 million foreign visitors.
The DOT said revenues from
foreign tourists amounted to $394.04 million, up by 24.23 percent.
The average per capita expenditure of visitors for the month was
$1,181, with an average daily expenditure of $73.96 and average
length of stay of 15.97 nights.
