A big boost for children with Big C

C is for children. C is for care. C is for cure. The number of Filipino children afflicted with cancer has been on a continuous rise and whatever help these kids can get will go a long, long way.

With this in mind, fashion brand Mossimo recently gathered all its celebrity endorsers for an afternoon musical marathon at the Activity Center of Glorietta to raise funds for the Cancer Warriors Foundation, an organization that cares for children with cancer.

The children came in droves and were entertained by the likes of Barbie Almabis Honasan, Retrospect, Thor, Jeffrey Hidalgo, Luke Mejares, and the rock group Rocksteddy. Celebrities took time out from their schedules to do their share and help convince mall patrons to pledge their donations to the foundation.

Mejares, who almost choked with emotions as he belted out his number, recalled the hair-raising moment. “I was so touched while singing that I almost failed to contain my emotions. It’s a small way of helping these children who are afflicted with a dreaded disease, given that they still have a full life ahead. Whatever way artists like me can help will go a long way. This experience is priceless.”

For her part, new mom Barbie Almalbis shared that it is indeed heartbreaking to see children suffering. “ Whether it’s disease or war or famine, these kids do not deserve to suffer. Cancer is dreaded, but modern technology and science have become so advanced that something can be done. Usually it’s the first step that’s the hardest, so we are all trying to help in whatever way we can.”

The highlight of the event was the turnover of P500,000 which are proceeds from the sale of a special Christmas CD released in December at all Mossimo boutiques.

“The amount that we have come up with will benefit these children. Fashion is almost always associated with glamour and outside beauty. With this small act, we hope to give a smile to these kids and their parents, and be one with them in their fight against cancer. If we can heal their souls, then perhaps, we can contribute in the complete healing of their physical bodies,” intoned Magnolia David, executive of Mossimo.
