Court grants amparo writ for former soldier

The Court of Appeals has issued a writ of amparo in favor of a decorated former soldier who is being implicated in the failed November 29 standoff at Makati City that was staged against the government.

In a resolution, the appellate court ordered a hearing on February 26 from the petition filed by Menchita Lusterio and Emelyn Lusterio, the mother and wife, respectively, of Monchito Lusterio.

Named respondents were Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, National Police Chief Avelino Razon Jr., Interior Secretary Ronaldo Puno, Armed Forces Chief Hermogenes Esperon Jr., and Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr.

They were tasked to return the writ within a period of five days.

The Lusterios asked the appellate court to order the police and military to stop the manhunt for Monchito and remove his picture and name from a poster which shows the persons wanted for taking part in the standoff led by Sen. Antonio Trillanes 4th and Brigadier Gen. Danilo Lim.
