Toshiba to buy
rival Sony's
chip ops for 835 mln dollars |
|
Japan's Toshiba said Wednesday it had agreed to pay 835 million
dollars for Sony's high-performance semiconductor operations, just a
day after surrendering to its rival in a bruising DVD format war.
Despite being fierce competitors
in other areas, the two companies said they had firmed up a deal to
form a semiconductor joint venture owned 60 percent by Toshiba Corp.
and 40 percent by Sony Corp.
