CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga: Rene Medina, a
philanthropist-businessman based in San Francisco, California has
launched a five-year P25-million college scholarship program for
deserving Pampanga High School (PHS) graduates.
The scholarship program, Medina said,
“should help me pursue my vision of creating opportunities for our
students so that one day, one or more of these scholars will become
successful in life and find the rare fortune of being able to give
back to the community, our country and most of all to Pampanga High
School.”
Imelda Macaspac, PHS principal from a letter
of Medina dated February 10, 2008, made the announcement.
“In other words, I would wish that the program
would produce another Diosdado Macapagal, or Rene Medina, capable of
duplicating or con-tinuing our works,” he said.
Medina, a PHS 1967 graduate had generously supported
various programs and projects of his alma mater, including providing
daily transportation allowances and food poor students, as well as
the reconstruction of the Bulwagang Capampa-ngan that has since
been named after him.
In his letter, Medina thanked those who selected
him outstanding alumnus while at the same time renewing his commitment
to PHS.
“On an even grander scale, I am pleased to
announce that I am launching a P25-million college scholarship
program over the next five years, at P5 million per year–for
deserving Pampanga High senior students, who wish to continue
their college education.”
