IPRA RP chapter holds PR seminar Feb. 27

The Philippine Chapter of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA) will give a PR seminar on “How to Make It in PR” for students and young PR employees on February 27, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Function Room A of the Megatrade Halls, SM Megamall, Mandaluyong City.

“The seminar is part of the chapter’s PR for PR program and is meant to orient students considering PR as a career, about what the PR profession really is and what it would take for them to succeed in it,” said Joy Buensalido, IPRA Philippine chapter chairman and president and CEO of Buensalido & Associates Public Relations. “And who can better do this than our members who have all made their mark in the profession and who are willing to share their knowledge and experience with young people?”

She added that through the seminar the chapter aims to raise funds to help their fellow chapter member Max Edralin defray the cost of the long and expensive medical treatment of his granddaughter, Alexis Edralin, one of the country’s finest young sopranos, who has been suffering from acute mylogonous leukemia.

“Initially, we thought of organizing a fundraising concert for Alexis. But then we still had to look for professional entertainers to join the concert for free or for a nominal sum.  So we decided that we might as well make use of our expertise in PR to hit two birds with one stone so to speak—to raise funds for Alexis and at the same time help give the country’s future PR professionals a good head start and grounding in their PR careers,” Buensalido pointed out.

The IPRA Philippine chapter members who will talk during the seminar are Max Edralin, PR consultant, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas consultant; Millie Dizon, vice-president, Marketing Communications Group, Shoemart; Angel Limgenco, president, Strategic Edge; Edd Fuentes, president, Fuentes Publicity Network; Rene Nieva, chairman and CEO, Perceptions; Bobby Manzano, PR partner, Writer’s Edge; Richard Burgos, external relations manager, IBM ASEAN; and Karen Villanueva, external affairs director, Merck Sharp & Dohm Phils.

Romy Virtusio, chairman and CEO of Virtusio Public Relations, will lead the panel discussion that will take place at the end of the seminar. He will be joined by chapter members Milen de Quiros, president, Full Circle, and Butch Raquel, vice-president for communications, GMA Network.

The fee for the seminar will be P1,000 for students and P2,000 for employees. The fee will cover not only their participation in the seminar but also lunch, certificate of attendance as well as handouts on the various presentations.  Companies can also make a donation of P10,000 or its equivalent in kind for the seminar which will entitle them to send up to three of their employees to the seminar for free.

Interested parties can contact any of the IPRA Philippine Chapter members or call Perceptions, Inc. at 891-3396 or 891-3485 and ask for either Glyza Lopez or Ella Berba.
