THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Saturday
welcomed the probe of the Department of Justice on the alleged
abduction of whistleblower Rodolfo Noel Lozada, holding that he was
never abducted by its men.
Lozada, a former government executive, has filed
kidnapping charges and attempted murder against the PNP Chief,
Director General Avelino Razon Jr., and several other police
officials before the justice department.
The PNP spokesman, Senior Supt. Nicanor
Bartolome, said that the PNP is confident it could disprove
allegations that Lozada was abducted after he arrived from Hong kong.
“We welcome this development in the same
manner that we welcome a similar complaint filed earlier against the
PNP before the Office of the Ombudsman,” Bartolome said in a
statement.
The PNP spokesman said the filing of the case
will give them the opportunity to prove that Lozada was not
abducted, but was merely given police protection.
“The case filed at DoJ will allow the PNP the
opportunity to air our side and present our own evidence before the
proper forum to disprove allegations, and once and for all, clarify
the issue,” Bartolome said.
The PNP spokesman said the PNP will face the
charges squarely and present the necessary evidence that would
debunk Lozada’s allegation that he was abducted.
