ASIAN COLLEGE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (ACSAT) pair Raisalyn Noleal
and Venus Benecio registered three wins and one loss in the elims to
advance in the next round of the 2008 Petron Ladies’ Beach
Volleyball Tournament first leg Saturday at the sand courts of the
University of the East-Caloocan campus.
The two tied the record of 2007 first leg
winners and schoolmates Sheena Rose Teves and Lourdes Patilllano,
whose only loss (11-21) came at the hands of University of the East
bets Kimberly Dizon and Abigail Escandor, who swept their
elimination round assignments.
Noleal and Benecio will meet Escandor and Dizon
while Teves and Patillano will be up against UE’s Katherine Rivera
and Gina Flor Alanguilan in the semifinals of this event supported
by the UE Physical Education Department, official outfitter Speedo,
official ball Mikasa, Acsat and Arellano University.
After posting a 21-13 triumph over Arellano
University bets Joy Anne Ibuyan and Ruby Anne Montaner, the Acsat
tandem scored a 21-18 win over Philippine School of Business
Administration pair Jessie Dumagat and Dyrene Benecio, and then
moved ahead with a 3-0 record following the default of Philippine
Maritime Institute players Sheila Mae Banawa and Ma. Diana Maceda.
Noleal and Benecio failed to sweep the elims
after losing 7-21 to Escandor and Dizon.
The 5-foot-4 Noleal, on her second year in the
tournment, said better court coverage and their timely return spikes
enabled them to gain a 19-14 edge during their crucial match with
Dumagat and Benecio.
“We relaxed in this game. That is why they
were able to rally from 14-19. But we were able to hold on with our
defense,” said beauteous Noleal, a computer science student.
