JAY BAYRON, last year’s winningest amateur, will debut as a
professional in the Konica Minolta National Pro-Am set March 4 to 8
at The Riviera’s Langer in Silang, Cavite.
“Jay is in high spirits and he told me he
wanted badly to win his first tournament as a professional,” said
Jake P. Ayson, the chairman of the Rules Committee of the tournament
sponsored by U-Bix Corporation and organized by the National Golf
Association of the Philippines.
“Jay [Bayron] scored a dramatic victory last
year as an amateur in our tournament and I wish him success in his
new career as a pro,” said Atty. Edilberto B. Bravo, the U-Bix
chairman and president who upped the total prizes this year to a
record P3 million from the previous high of P1.7M.
Jay was the amateur of Edwin Estrera when the
duo won the event’s sixth edition last year, scoring the first
wire-to-wire victory in the tournament backed by PAL, Pagcor,
Stradcom Corporation, Grappa’s, ServiceMaster Services, San Miguel
Corporation, S-Yard, Pivo Praha, Epson Printers, Bank of Commerce,
Brother Office Equipment, Riso Digital Duplicators, BPI, Metrobank,
KM Bizhub, RCBC, Landbank and Unionbank.
Jay Bayron’s partnership this year with his
brother, Rufino, has instantly installed the Bayrons as the team to
beat in the series that stakes two Toyota cars as hole-in-one prizes
through Daniel M. Isla, the first vice president of the Toyota
Motors Phils. Inc.
The all-new Vios will be staked on March 4 in
the Celebrity Pro-Am headed by former President Ramos. The
10th generation Corolla Altis is the hole-in-one prize in the
tournament proper March 5 to 8.
The last brothers to win this fabled event
that began in 1958 (it “died” in 1995) and revived in 2001 by
Atty. Bravo were Raul and Paul Minoza in 2002.
The Minozas finished in the Top 10 last year,
but they are not playing this year as Raul is busy on his new job as
the barangay captain of San Miguel in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.
