BPO opportunities
|
|
A REPORT last week said a business process outsourcing (BPO) firm
enjoyed generous profits last year. This shows that fears of an
appreciating peso and a slowing US economy would erode the incomes
of the Philippines’ dollar-earning sunrise industry may have been
off the mark.
Assuming the US is already amid a slowdown,
which appears to be the case given a slew of data to that effect,
robust earnings at firms like eTelecare indicate that the
Philippines can ride out—even profit from—the difficulties of
the world’s largest economy. The strong interest of a homegrown
BPO company to acquire even US-based rivals to build a regional base
indicates that industry players see the current economic slowdown as
something temporary.

Chitang’s tribute
to Adrian
|
|
Fellow journalists and politicians—casual acquaintances and even
friends—of the late Adrian Cristobal, liked him for being a
cheerful, witty and educational presence. Some of these friends
learned only last Wednesday, February 20—at the “Tribute to
Adrian Cristobal” organized by Samahang Plaridel—the gravitas of
Adrian’s contribution to Philippine literature.

PASG bungling its way to extinction

|
HARDLY anybody (except maybe in some remote corner of Pangasinan
were he was a local government functionary) knew who Antonio
“Bebot” Villar was until he happened to be plucked from
provincial obscurity and thrust on the national arena as chief of
the Presidential Anti-Smuggling Group (PASG).

Don’t treat Lozada
like a George Washington

As a young boy, I was enthralled by the story of George Washington
who admitted chopping down a cherry tree even if it meant being
punished by his parents because he could not tell a lie.

A final offer
|
|
BEFORE God’s judgment seat, we know not the day nor the hour when
we will stand. It was with that soul-searching realization in the
presence of his captors that Engineer Rodolfo “Jun” Lozada
embarked on his profound conversion from a moderately greedy
technocrat to an honest patriot.

Who is minding
Mindanao?
|
|
As the Arroyo Administration is preoccupied by Jun Lozada’s
revelations and neutralizing unguarded statements like “she is
evil” and Governor Salceda’s “one lucky bitch,” as more and
more Pinoys come out of their shells to support the growing clamor
to find the truth about corruption in high places, is the Palace
worried about another People Power demonstration?
