Celebrating another year, MotorCycle Magazine’s second anniversary issue focuses on the Custom Cycle Craze that is prevailing in the biker community, and features the nine-foot-long Big Dog Motorcycle K-9 Custom Chopper of Von Dutch apparel with Viva Hot Babe and GMA talent Jen Rosendahl on the cover. The issue also features 20 pages of custom motorcycles and a review of the Ducati Desmosedici RR, currently the most exotic bike on the planet. Subaru provides tour vehicle for cycle race

Motor Image Pilipinas, the Philippine distributor of Subaru vehicles, will provide a Forester sport-ute to serve as tour vehicle in a cycling event by Spyder Optics and Elite Multi-Sport Resources. Called the Spyder Executive Road Cycling (XRC) Race Series 2008, the event will kick off on February 23 and 24 at the Diosdado Macapagal Highway, Parañaque City.

The Spyder Executive Road Cycling Race Series 2008 will involve more than 200 cyclists who will vie for team and individual honors. At stake are awards for Men’s Category A Team, Category B Team and Category C Team; and Women’s Elite Team and Women’s Sports Team. This year, four major awards have been included: XRC Sprint King, XRC King of the Mountains, XRC Best Team (team who wins most point in 2 TTT events) and XRC Time Trialist (Prologue and ITT points winner).

The event will follow the same four-race format adopted last year with each leg set in a different location, presenting the racers with four distinct challenges. Individual and team points earned at each of the legs shall be combined to determine the final series winners.

The initial leg will be a Team Time Trial on a course that’s a favorite among weekend cyclists. It is a flat course that looks deceivingly easy but the wide, open space makes it quite notorious for its strong, unpredictable winds.

The second leg, set on May 24 and 25, will be an Individual Time Trial and Road Race in Tagaytay City. It will be set amid scenic coffee plantations, while the Road race will use an established SEA Games course.

Clark Field in Pampanga will be the venue for the third leg’s Team Time Trial and Road Race that’s set on September 20 and 21, while the fourth leg will be held at the Subic Bay Freeport on December 6 and 7. The road race will traverse Subic’s well-paved winding mountain and seaside roads, and a run will also be held at the Subic International Raceway.

With the success generated from last year’s event, a growing number of cycling clubs and triathlon teams have begun to appreciate the professional level of competition, consistent officiating, and well-managed races of the Spyder XRC Race Series—which has been considered as “the premiere annual multi-leg race series in the league.”

Toyota volunteers support gawad kalinga

Volunteers from Toyota Motor Phils. (TMP) painted houses during their recent Gawad Kalinga (GK) visit at the GK Maralit Site in Better Living Subdivision, Parañaque City. The Toyota GK Volunteers, together with their families and friends, took time out to join the project that helps the less-fortunate in building not just people’s homes but their hopes and dreams as well. Through the GK Build and other similar projects, TMP team members are doing their share in giving their countrymen a chance to get more out of life and to live with dignity.
