LIGAO CITY, Albay: Thousands attended the prayer rally held for
whistle-blower Jun Lozada, the “probinsyanong intsik” who is a
resident of this city.
Organized by the Social Action Center director,
Rev. Fr. Ramoncito Seguvience of the Diocese of Legazpi, the prayer
rally on Wednesday attended by close to 4,000 people was officiated
by Legazpi Diocese Bishop Lucilo Quiambao, with the clergy in
attendance.
Ligao city police said the rally was held
peacefully with an estimated crowd of 2,500 to 3,000.
Bishop Quiambao said the two-hour prayer rally
that started at 4 p.m. was held under a perfect normal weather
condition despite the abnormal rains hitting Albay for more than two
weeks now. He said rain came after the successfully held rally, an
indication of God’s support for the “probinsyanong intsik.”
Lozada however failed to attend the rally
because of the alleged threat on his life. But at the midst of the
prayer rally, Lozada called up radio station Veritas DWBS in Legazpi
City which covered the rally live where he addressed the crowd and
called for his “kababayan’s” to support the movement seeking
the resignation of Mrs. Arroyo.
Bishop Quiambao said the Catholic Church is
supportive of Lozada’s heroism acts but lamented that some media
outlets have been distorting facts about their stands.
He said he is supportive of the latest act of
the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines not to
participate in the move to oust the present leadership.
Rev. Fr. Antonio Seal, Ligao City assistant
parish priest, said the family and relatives of Lozada attended the
prayer rally in front of the St. Stephen Proto-Martyr Church Plaza.
Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal, who is the
president of the Bicol City mayors’ league, however says that
Bicolanos do not support mass actions against the present leadership
citing the Oakwood mutiny and the Peninsula siege led by another
Bicolano from Ligao City, Senator Antonio Trillanes 4th.
