Four designers redefine glamour

By Sarah Baviera

CESAR GAUPO, Efren Ocampo, Lulu Tan-Gan and Mike de la Rosa have long defined glamour and elegance with their fashion masterpieces. Going beyond the holidays and onto the New Year, these four respected designers continue to cast their fashion spell with timeless and tastefully crafted clothes for the modern woman.

Cesar Gaupo has always been known as the master of minimalism. He stays closer to this trademark with his usual lines of simple, uncluttered and clean look. His new collection of jersey dresses is filled with delightful surprises that emerge from cocoon silhouettes and dramatic drapings.

“I always want my clothes to look and feel very feminine,” says Gaupo, adding, “But I also like them to be playful from time to time and very wearable.”

Lulu Tan-Gan’s knits enter the new year with touches of gold and bronze in her signature separates. But the knit queen remains simple and practical amid all the dazzle in her latest collection. “Elegance should never be loud,” she reminds everyone. “It’s something you exude with the clothes you are wearing,” Tan-Gan adds that her halter tops, tunics, shrugs, wraps and pants are always easy to mix and match.

Efren Ocampo takes the classic black dress to new heights with a lot of draping and ostrich feathers. Choosing mostly chiffon materials that gently cascade down the body giving his clothes an uncomplicated elegance.

“There’s a lot that can be done with everyone’s favorite little black dress. It’s all about creativity. It’s all about knowing what makes you shine and what makes you stand out. It also has a lot to do with form, femininity, fun and being fearless,” explains Ocampo.

This time, Mike de la Rosa takes a vintage route with rich velvet and rustling taffeta outfits, as well as A-line and trapeze dresses that relives the charm of the sixties. His clothes always have subtle drama, and make heads turn without coming on too strong in a crowd.

“The new year is a good time to take more steps forward. What you wear tells a lot about who you are,” he intones.

Gaupo, Tan-Gan, Ocampo and de la Rosa—four designers who continue to soar with their fashion expertise and impeccable styles. The collections of Cesar Gaupo, Efren Ocampo, Lulu Tan-Gan and Mike de la Rosa are available at the Ladies’ Wear Boutique departments of selected SM stores.
