Indonesian dolphins make a splash

BESIDES the theme parks and the carnivals, many children have been regaled by the traveling aquatic show from Indonesia during the holiday season. Billed as “Wonderful World of Dolphins,” the show at the Metrowalk Complex in Pasig is extended up to January 20, due to insistent public demand.

The stars of the aquatic show are the bottle-nosed dolphins, with a pair named Tutti and Fruity stealing the scenes from their other under-the-sea friends, which also includes Jello and Jumbo, the talented duo of sea lions.

The aquatic animals do their stunts in the giant aquatorium set up in the parking lot of the Metrowalk Complex. The dexterous dolphins and skillful sea lions perform somersaults and acrobatics, play soccer and basketball, jump through rings and suspended hoops and engage in tail applause.

The show also provides education especially to the young audience. The audience gets to learn about the behavior, dietary needs and preservation and protection of dolphins and other oceanic mammals. Bottle-nosed dolphins, like Tutti and Fruity, are very energetic and friendly, often approaching boats and swimmers, making them the more popular species among the dolphins. They are highly intelligent, speaking to each other in a melodic of clicks, squeals and whistles. Tutti and Fruity have even learned the basic of arithmetic.

Other tricks and treats are in store for the whole family, including an amazing ride for one lucky member of the audience on a boat pushed by the dolphins.

There are at least three afternoon and evening shows every day until next weekend. For inquiries, call 384-5432 or 384-5327.
