LEGAZPI CITY: A church official said two
broadcasters noted for attacking personalities on air and using
strong language did not spare church officials in their tirades.
Rev. Fr. Pao Barandon, now station manager of
the diocese of Legazpi-run Radio Veritas dwBS, said that Adam
Claveria and Greg “Birador” Reverente of radio station dwRL
called Bishop Jose Sorra and Monsignor Honesto Moraleda, as
“animals and demons” in their October 16 and 17 radio programs
as they stepped up their attack against the church officials
allegedly involved an issue over the change of management of the
catholic-run St. Jude Catholic School.
The case of the two broadcasters and radio
station dwRL have already been submitted to the office of the
telecommunications Commissioner George Sarmiento for appropriate
action preparatory to the filing of criminal, civil, and
administrative charges against the concerned broadcasters, said
Monsignor Moraleda.
Lawyer Emerson Aquende said that Claveria and
Reverente, as well as radio station dwRL, shocked everyone in Albay
with said negative reference to the church officials, which many
observers said brought a chilling and frightening effect on the
public. Philippine Radio Corp. that is reportedly owned by
businessman Danding Cojuangco operates station dwRL. Aquende, Ralla
and associates’ law firm is the counsel of the diocese of Legazpi.
On December 21, Bishop Sorra and Monsignor
Moraleda executed a joint affidavit against the two broadcasters for
purposes of legal action. Father Barandon who claimed he had
recorded the October 16 and 17 broadcast programs, also executed an
affidavit.
While Monsignor Moraleda, Pastor of the St Jude
Parish Church and Bishop Sorra, a retired bishop of the diocese,
were initially not inclined to the filing of a formal complaint, the
consensus of clergy members of the diocese in a meeting at the St.
Gregory Minor Seminary in Tabaco City in early December last year,
decided in its favor.
Monsignor Moraleda said the consensus to file
the complaint was reinforced by the fact that the two broadcasters
continued using demonic language in their attack against public
officials and private personalities already affecting the young
generations especially the minors.
A certain Dr. Myrna Reantario, who claimed she
is a college adviser, also took the cudgels in behalf of the
Albayanos when she wrote Bishop Lucilo Quiambao of the diocese of
Legazpi dated December 10, assailing the church over its silence
with regards the behavior of Claveria and other broadcasters.
Monsignor Moraleda said the two also read
verbatim in their program a derogatory anonymous letter against the
church officials apparently coming from a disgruntled utility man of
the St. Jude Catholic School backed by certain school board members
from the Filipino-Chinese community, in exchange for a few pesos.
National Telecommunications Commission regional
director Rossel Rozares said that following a complaint from the
church officials, he called up the attention of dwRL management to
produce the tape recordings of Claveria and Reverente but the
station allegedly could not produce the tapes.
A retired RTC judge, Antonio Arcangel, wrote the
local KBP leadership on July 25, 2005 expressing dismay over local
broadcast media that was irresponsible. He cited among them Adam
Claveria as among the radio commentators who would hit below the
belt his target even on the basis of an anonymous text complaint.
Claveria is the same person mentioned by jueteng
witness Sandra Cam during the controversial Senate probe in early
2005, whom she said received P30,000 from jueteng collections on
instructions of then-Bicol Police Director Restituto Mosqueda.
