Alaska to boost semis campaign

WITH its outright semis campaign on the line, the Alaska Aces try to beat Purefoods when they meet Friday in the 2007 Smart-PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

Game time is 7:20 p.m. with the Aces not only seeking their 11th win but also hoping to avenge their 86-87 setback on November 21.

“We can’t make it to the semis outright on our own. There should be somebody to beat Sta. Lucia. We prefer to be in the Top 2 but we will be happy to be in the quarters also,” said Alaska coach Tim Cone.

If the Aces win, they will hope that Sta. Lucia Realty loses to Air21 on Sunday and Red Bull to Purefoods on January 16 to create a three-way tie for second place which will be resolved via a quotient system.

Purefoods coach Ryan Gregorio said his team will play against Alaska as if the championship is at stake.

“We have developed this character of taking each game seriously. We will play like it’s a championship game,” said Gregorio.

Playing in the 4:50 p.m. curtain-raiser are Magnolia Beverage (9-8) and Welcoat Paints.
