Sepak takraw team prepares
for 1st Asian Beach Games

By Llanesca T. Panti, Reporter

THE Philippine Amateur Sepak Takraw Association will send its men’s and women’s teams in the first Asian Beach Games slated October 18 to 26 in Bali, Indonesia.

PASTA President Mario Tanchanco said both teams are gearing up for the tough challenge ahead.

“Our teams will be ready for battle. We will be pitted against 45 countries and we’re excited about it since we have been consistent podium finishers in Asian meets,” Tanchanco said.

The men’s hoop team composed of Rodolfo Eco, Hector Mamarion, Joel Carbonilla, Motodio Suico, Harrison Castañares, Junmar Aleta, Larry Dalope and Jessel Yau accounted bagged the bronze medal in the 2nd Asian Indoor Games held in Macau, China last year.

The same men’s team scored 600 points to finish third in the 2007 Thailand SEAG behind Thailand (930 points) and Myanmar (760 points).

The women’s team of Irene Apdon, Deseree Autor and Sarah Jane Catain also captured the regu and doubles bronze medals in the SEAG.

“We have to practice more so that our previous efforts won’t go to waste,” Tanchanco added.
