DHL golf set  Jan. 29


REIGNING national amateur champion Anthony Fernando and SEAG silver medalist Anya Tanpinco head the campaigners in the 13th DHL-WWWExpress National Amateur Golf Championships slated January 29 at the north course of the Canlubang golf complex in Laguna.

Also competing are 2007 runner-up Rufino Bayron and SEA Games veterans Ferdie Aunzo, Jhonnel Ababa and Mark Fernando in the men’s division while joining the women’s division are Cyna Rodriguez, Regina de
Guzman and Chihiro Ikeda.

Jay Bayron and Dottie Ardina, who romped away with the men’s and ladies crowns last year, will not be around this time with former joining the pro ranks and the latter on a golfing scholarship abroad.

Deadline of entry is on January 25. Fee is pegged at P2,500 for men and P2,000 for ladies, inclusive of one free practice round on January 28.

Meanwhile, the organizing National Golf Association of the Philippines is inviting other players to join the tournament, a 72-hole stroke play competition for the men’s and a 54-hole tourney for the ladies. The event is open to men and ladies amateurs with handicap indices of 0-7 for men and 0-10 for women.
