THE world’s favorite musical on
ice takes on another level for 10 days starting January 18 at the
Araneta Coliseum. Disney on Ice will feature Mickey and Minnie’s
Amazing Journey that will surely delight children of all ages.
Since 1981, Disney on Ice has
performed in 50 countries and on six continents. The shows have
played all over the world namely New York, Tokyo, Barcelona, Buenos
Aires including nontraditional skating regions like South America
and the \o “Middle East” Middle East.
Produced by the Feld
Entertainment, Disney on Ice boasts of an international team of
award-winning skaters that showcases exciting choreography perked up
by a wonderful musical score full of Disney hits. These elements
appeal to the senses and bring the picture-perfect postcards within
the arena to life. “It’s an extraordinary show, an adventure
through imagination and a family vacation rolled into one incredible
night,” says Kenneth Feld, producer and CEO of Feld Entertainment.
The show combines the familiar
tunes from Disney’s Peter Pan, and The Little Mermaid along with
new favorites from the Lilo and Stitch and Academy award-winning
songs from the Lion King. The unconventional mix of music inspired
choreographer Cindy Stuart to incorporate original movies, like the
boisterous pirate line dance.
What a journey
From their seats, viewers will be
transported to the enchanting world of Disney’s Lion King, Lilo
and Stitch, The Little Mermaid, 101 Dalmatians and Peter Pan.
“The production gets bigger
every year and now offers five stories in one show. There’s
definitely something here for everyone,” enthuses Eric Gravelle,
Southeast Asia and India regional marketing director for Southeast
Asia of Feld Entertainment.
Each scene brings the story to an
unusual and inviting new location, including a dreamy London
cityscape, a colorful tropical island, an underwater kingdom and the
untamed Savannah of Africa. Audiences will experience the madcap
mischief of Peter Pan’s Lost Boys, an upbeat hula with Lilo and
Stitch, the easygoing “Hakuna Matata” of Simba and friends, and
a reggae-spiced romp led by Sebastian of Little Mermaid.
“Not only is this show a
journey to many Disney destination, it is a journey of emotions,”
says director Jerry Bilik. Each destination has its own mood
lighting that was created by Patrick Dierson. The London skyline
that can be seen from the Darling children’s window soon changes
to a mysterious forest where Peter Pan and the Lost Boys live. The
many moods of the show are enhanced by the late Robert Smith’s
scenic designs both on and off the ice by creating a
multidimensional feel for the show.
Costume designer Arthur Boccia
has assembled specific and appealing looks from the nightgowns,
grass skirts to fur coats.
Loaded with original effects,
Disney on Ice will surely thrill the Manila audience this new year.
