BUS operators who threw their support for the use of
alternative fuels almost five years ago expressed disappointment on
Monday over the failure of the government to establish Liquefied
Natural Gas (LNG) refilling stations in Metro Manila.
Claire de la Fuente, president of
the Integrated Metro Bus Operators Association, said some bus
operators who decided to purchase the LNG-powered buses now can’t
use their units because they don’t know where to get the
appropriate fuel in Metro Manila.
“We hope the government could
speed up the [establishment of the] needed pipelines that will
supply LNG to oil companies…” de la Fuente said.
To date, there are only two
natural gas refilling stations, both of which are not in Metro
Manila. Shell Philippines has a compressed natural gas refueling
station in Batangas and a refilling station along the South Luzon
Expressway.
The use of natural gas was
introduced by the government in 2003 and it was able to convince
transport operators to purchase bus units using the alternative
fuel.
