THE Philippine Sports Commission
will provide technical support for the Department of
Education-organized Palarong Pambansa slated
April 20 to 26 at Puerto Princesa City in Palawan.
PSC Chairman William Ramirez has
designated newly-appointed commissioner Eric Loretizo to coordinate
with Palaro technical committee head Len Toledo.
“The DepEd is calling the shots
for Palaro but the technical people will be provided by the PSC,
which will collaborate with the national sports associations,”
said Loretizo.
“We also have to review and
change the technical handbook of the Palaro. We need to talk it over
with the DepEd since we’re partners in the promotion and
development of sports in the student level,” he added.
Loretizo and Toledo are scheduled
to meet this week to discuss the formation of different working
committees.
Toledo said that the Education
department allotted a P60-million budget for the annual
multi-sporting event for secondary and primary level.
“We will be coordinating with
the PSC which will assist us in running the Palaro in Palawan. The
PSC is very supportive when it comes to lending some equipment and
manpower,” said Toledo.
Meanwhile, Toledo said the local
government of Puerto Princesa has expressed its readiness to host
the event which will be participated in by some 5,000 athletes.
“Puerto Princesa is really
excited to host the event. They have good venues. The main stadium
only need resurfacing,” added Toledo.
