THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) assured that it
would complete on time work on a vital bridge that links Davao City
to nearby provinces in Eastern Mindanao.
Public Works and Highways Secretary Hermogenes
Ebdane Jr. made the assurance following protests from local
officials, businessmen and commuters expressing dissatisfaction over
the agency’s performance where the Generoso Bridge was concerned.
The 30-year-old bridge, also known popularly as “Bangkerohan
Bridge,” urgently needed major repair following its collapse
because of deterioration.
“Definitely we will complete the bridge on
schedule,” Ebdane said. “We are making sure no problems will
occur during the construction period,” Ebdane said.
The project involves the construction of
170.8-lineal meter bridge composed of four spans of pre-stressed
concrete girder.
“Another good feature of the new bridge is
that we will be using bored piles, which is more reliable that
concrete piles,” Ebdane added.
The DPWH Bureau of Construction and DPWH Region
XI are implementing the project at a cost of P207 million from the
regular infrastructure fund of the department.
