Palace shrugs off Freedom House report |
|
But opposition blames military for the country’s
decline in democracy
|
|
Malacañang shrugged off a report by an American
private democracy watchdog organization, which said freedom and
democracy in the Philippines declined last year.
Freedom House, a US-based international
nongovernmental organization that advocates democracy, political
freedom and human rights, said the Philippine democracy is on a
downward trend from the spate of political killings, specifically
targeting left-wing political activists.
