Sumilao farmers to keep on ‘walking’ |
|
Cardinal Rosales said the farmers are fighting for
what is right and what is just
|
|
EXACTLY a month since they met with President
Arroyo in Malacañang, the Higaonon farmers of Bukidnon on Thursday
decided to continue their battle, not in court, but in the hearts
and minds of the people and in the international information arena
until they are able to reclaim the contested 144-hectare Sumilao
estate.
“Last time, we walked from our houses to the
halls of power in Malacañang to knock at the hearts and
conscience of the powerful. It appears they will not use even an
ounce of their powers to fulfill their promise of returning our
land,” the farmers said in a press conference in the presence of
Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales and Manila Auxiliary
Bishop Broderick Pabillo.
