Dion to sing for Olympics

BEIJING: Canadian Celine Dion, who popularized the Titanic theme song “My Heart Will Go On,” will perform a song for the Beijing Olympics in a concert in April and submit an entry for the Games’ theme song, organizers said.

Dion’s concert will be held on April 13 at the Beijing Workers Stadium as part of her worldwide tour to promote her latest album entitled Taking Chances.

The Grammy Award winner said via video at a news briefing on Wednesday that she would prepare well for the song and believed it would reflect the “One World, One Dream” concept of the event.

Her team had prepared the song as an entry for the Olympic theme song, but had not yet submitted it to the solicitation committee, a source with the Beijing Olympic Games Organizing Committee told Xinhua on Thursday.

Her April show has been included in a number of celebrations for the Games, which run from August 8 to 24.

Dion sang “The Power of the Dream” at the opening ceremony of the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
