THE Philippine Board of Governors unanimously
elected Renauld “Sonny” Barrios as commissioner in a meeting
Thursday at the PBA office in Quezon City.
Barrios, who was appointed officer-in-charge
after the resignation of Atty. Emmanuel Eala, is the seventh
commissioner of Asia’s first pay-for-play league.
Board Chairman Tony Chua said the 59-year-old
Barrios was asked to stay as commissioner until the end of the
season.
“It was a unanimous decision by all members of
the board,” said Chua after the meeting, which was supposedly set
to choose between Atty. Chito Salud and Nextel executive Lambert
Ramos.
A reliable source said the board members failed
to come up with the six votes needed to elect either Ramos or Salud,
prompting them to finally choose Barrios.
However, Barrios asked the board to give him
time to decide within the week because he has first to consult his
wife and family regarding the offer of the PBA board.
