‘Green Team’ battles urban
blight in designing Trevein

At the turn of the century, comic book heroes went from simply battling supernatural enemies to more pragmatic, real-world threats—specifically, threats to natural resources for the sake of progress.

While they may not have any super powers to speak of, Community Innovations chose four talented individuals to present us with a “greener outlook” to urbanization. Let’s take a look at these modern day “heroes,” armed with the goal of accomplishing progress without damaging the environment.

Cue the “Green Team,” an eclectic mix of creative minds that were tasked to build Treveia, composed of Community Innovations’ President Dan Abando, Vice-President for project development Iris Josef, architect and master planner Gilbert Berba, and engineer Kiko Francisco. These individuals were asked to integrate a design theme aligned with both modernity and environmentalism, incorporating hi-tech yet passive elements to make amenities operate efficiently in terms of energy and water use.

Eco-friendly design

Found at the heart of Nuvali—a sprawling new metropolis that is set to rise in the South that house both business and residential districts within a green environment, Treveia is a 60-hectare development that stands for modern and eco-friendly living while providing a family and community nurturing environment.

“Design wise, we are leaning on a more modern approach, bordering on cutting-edge type of design. We tried to keep it simple but elegant and sleek while also being energy-efficient,” said Green Team member Architect Gilbert Berba. “In terms of design, this is the boldest of all Community Innovations’ developments to date.”

This concept led to windows, doors and exhaust being strategically placed to allow the natural flow of air and light through the many residential structures and the amenities found in Treveia. This, according to the Green Team, would minimize the costly reliance on air conditioners and artificial indoor lighting.

“Water-catchment areas such as the “retention pond” found near the energy-efficient clubhouse make use of rain water that would naturally evaporate, emitting fresh air or creating a “cooling effect” that flows into every room of the clubhouse and nearby structures that reduces the role of air conditioners,” says Berba.

As a testament to the Green Team’s commitment to help preserve the environment, all advancements that will be used in Treveia such as the bio-swales and double-piping systems are for the conservation or for reuse of water and energy.

The Green lifestyle

Because of the peaceful and serene environment inherent to the development, the Green Team wishes to build a distinct Treveia culture among its residents that would embody the green lifestyle. They also pointed out that the master plan was designed “from the ground-up to be green” in order to make it effortless for residents to live a green lifestyle.

Berba adds that “there was a conscious effort to make it a green development and community in terms of planning,” intentionally integrating “green ele-ments” that would “equal to residents being able to save on electricity, water and gas among other expenses.”

Besides the amenities and structures, Treveia aims to foster closer family relationships and build a tight-knit community by providing venues for recreational activities. All residences are a mere five-minute walk from the nearest park (which includes the Grand Central Park, four major parks, and the more intimate pocket parks,) and the tree-shaded pedestrian and bike lanes that are perfect for residents to take leisurely walks on for exercise while also promoting interaction among neighbors. The place also boasts of Community Innovations’ neighborhood security with the convenience of being found inside Nuvali.

Setting an example

With the revolutionary and green way of life being offered by Treveia, the Green Team kept an open mind to allow fellow developers to embrace their “eco-friendly” stance saying that as market leaders, “ they should always strive to lead the way for the green movement to gain momentum and for the advocacy to be picked up.”

In line with Nuvali’s vision of an economic, ecological and socially-sustainable development Treveia stands by the pillars of a modern, eco-friendly, family and community nurturing environment. With the help of modern day “superheroes”  such as Community Innovations’ Green Team, Treveia promises to be a landmark development not just in design but in lifestyle as well.
