SEAG veteran Nathaniel “Tac” Padilla announced this week the
staging of the First Regional Youth Championships on May 30 to June
1 at the PSC/PNSA range in Fort Bonifacio.
The winners of the Regional Youth competition
will advance to the National Championships on November 28 to
December 1.
Padilla, a 15-time campaigner in the SEAG, was
appointed by Philippine National Shooting Association President Art
Macapagal as chairman of the youth development program last week.
“We have to start as early as possible. I met
my team members last week and quickly laid out a program that,
hopefully, would lead to the development of future world-class
shooters,” said the 43-year-old son of former Olympian Mariano
“Tom” Ong.
Padilla, also a national pistol champion, bared
plans to seek the help of Local Governments (LGUs) and the private
sector.
“Our search for future shooting champions
starts with the youth program and we badly need the support of LGUs,”
said Padilla, also the general manager of their family-owned Spring
Cooking Oil.
“Our group is also knocking at the door of
private firms and big corporations to ensure the success of the
program,” he added.
Padilla said his group will also hold monthly
clinics for aspiring shooters 12 to 17 years old and local coaches.
The members of Padilla’s group are Tito Palma,
vice-chairman for operations; Robbie Hermoso, vice-chairman for
administration; Moises Gines, national pistol coach; Bart Teyab,
national rifle coach; Peeya de los Reyes, marketing and operations
coordinator; Albert Manubay and Andres Maer.
