The ABE Computer School in Legarda, Manila, carved a niché for
themselves in the culinary arts when it bested 24 other competitors
in the 1st Las Haciendas Communities National Adobo Cooking Contest
held in Batangas recently.
Paul Jordan Bautista of ABE Computer College was
also named Adobo Grand Master when his own Roasted Pork Adobo proved
to be the most delectable and exquisite of adobo among 25
contenders.
Bautista who is in his third year as a culinary
art students of ABE said he is very proud of his achievements and
lauded Las Haciendas at the same time for coming up with such an
original competition that did not only bring out the best in all the
other contestants but also a sense of pride for the fine culinary
tradition of the country.
The Adobo championships was organized by Las
Haciendas Community, a prime development of Phoenix Land Inc. in
Laurel, Batangas, just minutes away from Metro Tagaytay.
Cosponsoring the event are McCormick, Petron Gasul and Silver Swan
who provided the materials and equipment needed for the cook-off.
“This is definitely going to be a yearly
event. We promise you a bigger crowd and more sizzling categories
next year. We are even planning on having a cook off for our lolo
and lola, just for them. We can encourage them to dig up their most
treasured secret ingredient and cook for us,” concluded Donny
Pile, president and CEO of Phoenix Land Inc.
With the competition’s vast success, Las
Haciendas, the home of the best adobos, promises to continue to
inspire students and everyone in keeping the culinary traditions and
cultural heritage of the country.
“I’m very honored and joyful at the same
time that my Pork Adobo with Ginger Sauce was chosen the best among
the rest. I’m sure our school will have something to be proud of
as well,” Bautista exclaimed.
Also winning the contest are Marie Zia Frances
Magtibay of Lyceum of Batangas for the second place and Harold B.
Bueno of College of Immaculate Conception, Cabanatuan for the third
place.
Magtibay whose Batangan Classic Adobo with
Mango-Pomelo Salsa and Hot Chili Tomato also impressed the judges
went home with P20,000 and another P10,000 for her school. Bueno
pocketed P10,000 and another P5,000 for his school also wowed the
judges with his “Adobo Ecijano.”
Special awards were also given during the
competition. Honey Mae Aldana of La Consolacion, Tanauan, won the
Best Seafood Adobo for her Adobong Tanigue sa Gata while Mary Grace
B. Paunil of Arellano University took the Best Exotic Adobo honors
Adobong Tangang Palaka. National Teachers College was awarded with
Best School Food Fair/Marketing and bagged P10,000 cash prize plus
McCormick products.
