Australian firm Nido Petroleum Ltd. is almost done with its seismic
surveys of the West Calamian block in offshore NorthWest Palawan.
In a statement, David Whitby, Nido
managing director, said that as of January 18, 2008, the company’s
seismic acquisition program in West Calamian at service contract
(SC) 58 was already 89-percent complete.
Nido targets the end of the month to
complete a 661 sq km 3D and 2,350 km 2D seismic program on the area.
The surveys on SC 58 is part of an extensive
seismic campaign Nido is undertaking in the NorthWest Palawan Basin
with a combined total of 6,057 km of 2D & 826 sq km 3D seismic.
Jon Pattillo, Nido’s head of
exploration, said the size of the seismic acquisition program that
preceded any drilling activity reflected the potential identified in
the company’s Palawan exploration portfolio.
The company recently completed seismic surveys
in SC 54 and SC63 as part of this campaign, the largest in Nido’s
history.
Whitby said that the data culled from the
block’s surveys are now undergoing processing with CGGVeritas in
Perth, Western Australia.
Australian-listed Nido currently has interests
in five SC areas or exploration blocs in the Northwest Palawan
basin. It has the second largest off shore exploration acreage in
the country with over 3 million hectares.
