Village water fees probed

STATE-RUN Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) has formed a task force to oversee the full takeover of the water systems of subdivisions and housing projects to restrain excessive water fees in these areas.

Lorenzo H. Jamora, MWSS administrator, appointed Edgardo Q. Esteban to head the task force, which will monitor and review the plans and issue the necessary certifications for putting up water systems for new subdivisions and housing projects, pursuant to Executive Order 688.

President Arroyo issued EO 688 to ensure that the provisions of the Presidential Decree 1345, which allows the MWSS to take over the water systems of private subdivisions and other housing projects, are implemented.

Before Malacaņang issued the directive, private subdivision residents have complained that developers were charging exorbitant fees.
