The persons who have been aspiring to head the Land Transportation
Office (LTO) can now have a shot at the post after reports came out
that the agency’s chief, Reynaldo Berroya, is on his way out.
According to Department of Transportation and
Communications (DOTC) sources, Berroya will be promoted to the
position of Undersecretary for Telecommunications, and will be
vacating his position at the LTO soon.
It was learned President Gloria Arroyo and
Transportation and Communications Secretary Leandro Mendoza chose
Berroya to supervise the telecommunications office of the DOTC
because of his expertise in communications and intelligence
networks.
Suspicion about Berroya’s imminent transfer
was strengthened after some 300 members of a motorcycle riders’
group trooped to the LTO head office in Quezon City on Friday to air
their support for him.
They claimed Berroya has been doing a good job
at the LTO for the past 14 months.
The possible replacements for Berroyo that
Malacañang is already considering include: former Philippine
National Police-Traffic Management Group Chief Danilo Mangila;
former Philippine National Police Chief Arturo Lomibao and DoTC
special assistant Bert Suansing. Lomibao was actually appointed by
President Arroyo to head the LTO late last year. But Lomibao never
got to sit as LTO head.
Meanwhile, it was also learned that
Undersecretary for Land Transportation Anneli Lontocis is also being
considered by the President to temporarily head the agency until
Malacañang chooses a permanent head.
