CABANATUAN CITY: A village head and his cousin were
ambushed in broad daylight along a provincial road in Barangay San
Pascual, Sto. Domingo on Wednesday, less than a week after three
provincial officials escaped death in a similar ambush in Gapan
City.
Barangay Captain Agustin Teodoro,
45, of Linao, Licab and his cousin identified as Johnny Teodoro,
survived the ambush and are now in hospital. The barangay captain
sustained shots in his lower lip.
Chief Insp. Nicasio Malazzab,
town police chief, said the victims were cruising the provincial
road on board a barangay service vehicle on their way home from a
seminar at the Philippine Rice Research Institute at about 5:10 p.m.
when fired at by unidentified suspects.
Wounded, Teodoro managed to drive
the vehicle to the Licab police station, several kilometers away
from the crime scene.
It will be recalled that on
Thursday last week, unidentified suspects also ambushed Engr.
Vicente Santos, 48, OIC provincial engineer and Engr. Roberto
Leoncio, 48, assistant chief of the provincial general services
office, both of Barangay San Roque, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija; Engr.
Anthony Alfaro, 26, chief of the provincial planning program of the
government of Barangay Sto. Niņo, Gapan, survived with no bullet
wounds.
Police Supt. Marlon Bingcang,
police station commander, said unidentified armed men at around
10:10 p.m. staged the ambush Thursday at Sto. Niņo while the three
were riding a gray Nissan Frontier pickup.
Police have yet to arrest or
identify suspects in both incidents.
