Barangay captain, cousin
survive slay attempt

CABANATUAN CITY: A village head and his cousin were ambushed in broad daylight along a provincial road in Barangay San Pascual, Sto. Domingo on Wednesday, less than a week after three provincial officials escaped death in a similar ambush in Gapan City.

Barangay Captain Agustin Teodoro, 45, of Linao, Licab and his cousin identified as Johnny Teodoro, survived the ambush and are now in hospital. The barangay captain sustained shots in his lower lip.

Chief Insp. Nicasio Malazzab, town police chief, said the victims were cruising the provincial road on board a barangay service vehicle on their way home from a seminar at the Philippine Rice Research Institute at about 5:10 p.m. when fired at by unidentified suspects.

Wounded, Teodoro managed to drive the vehicle to the Licab police station, several kilometers away from the crime scene.

It will be recalled that on Thursday last week, unidentified suspects also ambushed Engr. Vicente Santos, 48, OIC provincial engineer and Engr. Roberto Leoncio, 48, assistant chief of the provincial general services office, both of Barangay San Roque, San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija; Engr. Anthony Alfaro, 26, chief of the provincial planning program of the government of Barangay Sto. Niņo, Gapan, survived with no bullet wounds.

Police Supt. Marlon Bingcang, police station commander, said unidentified armed men at around 10:10 p.m. staged the ambush Thursday at Sto. Niņo while the three were riding a gray Nissan Frontier pickup.

Police have yet to arrest or identify suspects in both incidents.
