It’s a dance spectacle that means to give back to someone who has
dedicated his life to the art of dance. Ballet Manila, led by its
artistic director and prima ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde, is
mounting “Ballet Manila Dances Fabella” on February 7 at the
Star Theater of the CCP Complex. Proceeds of this special show will
benefit ailing choreographer and dance mentor Tony Fabella at 7:30
p.m., Pasay City.
This “one-night only” gala show will include
some of the most memorable dance pieces Fabella has choreographed
through the years, like “Dancing to Czerny,” “Dancing to
Verdi”, “Sayaw Pinoy,” and an earlier classic, “Dalagang
Pilipina.”
Regarded as an institution in the Philippine
dance circuit, Fabella was recently diagnosed with colon cancer and
has been undergoing radiation therapy to combat the disease while
still on its early stages. Macuja-Elizalde, who has known him since
her Dance Theater Philippines days, did not hesitate to organize the
fund-raising performance immediately after learning about the
choreographer’s condition.
“Tony Fabella is one of the country’s most
talented and most prolific choreographers,” avers Macuja-Elizalde,
adding “He is also a person who is fun, generous and and so easy
to work with—a really good soul. He has given many choreographic
gems to Ballet Manila and to me, personally, as gifts of his
wonderful talent, without asking for remuneration for such beautiful
and intricate works that always delight the audience. The least we
can do for him during this difficult time is to help raise financial
support for his medication and pray for his full recovery.”
Fabella is a board member of the Manila Dance
Foundation and president of the Quezon City Performing Arts
Development Foundation. He is a recipient of the Patnubay ng Sining
at Kalinangan Award from the City of Manila in 1984 and the National
Commission on Culture and Arts’ 2003 Alab ng Haraya Award.
“Ballet Manila Dances Fabella” is a
meaningful tribute to a passionate and indefatigable Filipino artist
no balletomane should miss! For tickets and inquiries, please call
