President to arrive today from Dubai

President Gloria Arroyo is expected to return to the Philippines today from the United Arab Emirates where she met with Dubai government officials and business leaders there.

Before her Dubai visit, the President was in Davos, Switzerland where she participated in the 2008 World Economic Forum.

In Dubai, Mrs. Arroyo met with UAE top officials and key officers of one of the major port operators in the world based in Dubai that employs more than 3,000 Filipino workers.

After that, she addressed the members of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce, top business leaders and employers of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

After meeting with the business community, Mrs. Arroyo met OFWs, assuring them that her government is trying to reduce charges to protect their dollar remittances.

Speaking to reporters before her departure from Switzerland, the President described her meetings with the world’s business and political leaders as “a very beneficial experience, particularly with the current uncertainties threatening the global economy.”
