HOLLYWOOD

Tom Cruise’s kids; Sean Connery’s rats

By Jill jackson

TOM CRUISE always seems to be in the news. Not only for all the movies he makes but also for his sometimes erratic behavior and his private life. Now it’s a controversy over his and Nicole Kidman’s adopted children, Connor and Isabella. Seems they are calling new wife Katie “Mom” with Tom’s approval, and calling Nicole just that—Nicole.

I don’t know how much time they spend with each parent, but it doesn’t seem right to involve youngsters in marital mishaps. We’ll just have to wait and see how this one plays out. Meanwhile, Mr. Cruise continues to smile that BIG smile and show those BIG teeth, and rake in BIG bucks at the box office.

And, of course, talk at this time of year is always awards. Definitely there is not a so-called shoo-in for Best Picture. From talk about town and from what I hear from friends in the Academy who vote, it looks like The Diving Bell and the Butterfly or No Country for Old Men could be the “taker.” Me? I’m just going to wait and see.

Meanwhile, you ask whom I think is the most beautiful actress on the screen today. NOT talent, just beauty. This is a hard one for me to answer because as the old saying goes, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” All I can say is there are none, and possibly never will be any actress with a face like Greta Garbo’s. However, if any of you readers have an opinion I’d like to know it. Let me hear from you.

All is not smelling like roses for Sir Sean Connery. He is being sued by a neighbor for $3 million over foul odors and rat infestation due to renovations on a townhouse. Now come on! Odors and a few rats could not possibly cause THAT MUCH.

We will have to see how this one plays out. I have a feeling if it were not a celebrity causing the “so-called” trouble, the price wouldn’t be as high!

Angelina Jolie said her kids weren’t allowed to watch her as a gold-plated nude in Beowulf. Meanwhile she and Brad continue to commute between all their houses all over the world, tugging all the kiddies with them.

BITS ‘N’ PIECES: Jeepers! Where have I been? I knew two of Michael Jackson’s kids are named Prince and Paris, but I wasn’t aware of Blanket, who is 5! ... A lot of the “boys” are going for bangs.

Tom, Ashton and others are sporting a forehead fringe just like us girls. ... I didn’t know until now while “perusing” memorabilia that Rita Hayworth and Ginger Rogers were first cousins. ... Nick Nolte’s asking price for a film in his heyday was $5 million. Today he is lucky if he can get $500,000.
