BI warns ‘illegally employed’
foreigners in Boracay Island

BORACAY Island: The Bureau of Immigration and Deportation (BID) will conduct inspection of the working visa and special working permits of all foreigners working in Boracay Island.

BID Commissioner Marcelino Libanan also ordered immigration officers to intensify the inspection and monitoring of foreigners in the famous island resort.

Some immigration personnel from Manila will be coming to assist the BID-Boracay office to verify the status of those foreigners who are working in the island, he added.

Libanan also conducted an inspection on Friday of the immigration area in Kalibo Airport to enhance and improve passenger service.

The BI chief said he will augment their immigration offices in Kalibo and Boracay Island due to the increasing passenger traffic in Kalibo and Caticlan domestic airports and the opening of a new airport in Silay City, Negros Occidental.

“Owing to the lack of immigration officers numbering 300 nationwide and the province of Aklan is expecting more flights this year, the BID is also evaluating the impact of the downgrading aviation status,” he told reporters at the Aklan Sampaguita Gardens Resort in New Washington, Aklan.
