The artificial distinctions between music genres are fast
disappearing. Today’s generation no longer care for the musical
prejudice. Instead they are innovating by fusing diverse sounds to
create “mashups.”
Moto Mashup is such an event. Taken by Cars and
DJ Funk Avy collaborate to form a fresh track that is a unique mix
of electropop and techno. Top Suzara and Radha blend cool rock and
R&B. Ciudad and Overtone reinvent easy-listening rock and
alternative rock-punk. The
Warehouse 135 was the venue for these musical
mashups sponsored by mobile phone company Motorola to highlight
their latest models boasting digital musical players W230 and RORK
E8.
Taken by Cars, famous for their hit triphop
single “Uh Oh” fused with DJ Funk Avy, one of the first
Filipinos to be signed by a French label- Fusion Recordings with his
“We Love Manila,” to create “Uh-Oh It’s Electro.”
Radha was formerly the lead singer of the
internationally acclaimed group called Kulay. Top Suzara was the
former male lead vocals of the band Freestyle prior to recording his
solo album Carry On with the hit song “Sabihin Mo Na.” Together,
they created the song “What’s Next.”
Ciudad, which just released their fourth album
Bring Your Friends, jived with Overtone, whose latest album “From
Inside the Fishbowl” infected the nation with their song “Wag
Mo’ng Aaminin.” Together they reinvented easy-listening rock and
alternative rock-punk with “Rule #1 Fixing the Radio.”
These six Filipino artists come together to
break ground in Filipino music with norm-defying sounds—each
distinctively unique yet all made for music.
Motorola users will be able to download all of
their tracks exclusively and for free at www.motomashup.com.ph.
