4 killed, 7 injured in Cebu landslide

Four persons, including three children, were killed and seven others were injured in a landslide in Samboan, Cebu City Sunday evening.

Reports reaching Camp Crame identified the fatalities as Florence Galia, 30 and her three children, 1-year-old Edwin Jr., four-year-old Nathaniel and two-year-old Errol Canete.

On the other hand, the injured victims were Florence’s husband, Edwin Sr., 30; daughters 4-year-old Rowelia and 3-year-old Rachel; Edwin Sr.’s sister Judith Galia, 27; and George Caballero and his twin sons, Richard and Raymond Caballero, both 14.

Samboan Police Station investigator, Senior Police Officer 1 Dominador Ferrolino, in his report to the national police, noted landslide occurred in the sub-village of Escaltam, Barangay Poblacion, Samboan about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday during a heavy downpour.

The houses were located around 50 meters below the national highway.

This developed as the local government ordered the evacuation of four other households as it was still checking the stability of the area.
