NATIONAL team member Benshir Layoso defeated compatriot Chester
King, 239-234, to win the men’s title in the Asian Bowling
Federation (ABF) Tour Philippines leg Sunday at the SM Bowling
Center.
The 38-year-old Layoso also became the fifth
bowler in the ABF Tour history to win the preceding international
open title and the same leg back-to-back.
“Winning my first international title Saturday
was already a fantastic achievement for me and to also win my first
tour title is amazing indeed,” said the 38-year-old player of
MTBA-Henrich. “It was a very hard fought match.”
To reach the finals, Layoso downed Korean Cha Ji
Hyun, 277-238. The Filipino also beat compatriot Paulo Valdez,
278-206, in Round 2 and Korean Son Young Seok, 238-185, in Round 1.
Posadas, on the other hand, stamped her class
over Lovella Catalan, 258-199, to capture her second women’s Tour
crown. Posadas ousted newly crowned RP Open titlist Krizzah Tabora,
205-178, to advance in the finals.
“When I knocked down five strikes in a row, I
thought I had sealed the victory,” said the 22-year-old Posadas,
the 2005 champion. “But when Lovella shot a turkey, I was a bit
worried. I was only relieved when I managed to follow it up with
another three strikes.”
Posadas defeated her younger sister Lara,
200-159, in Round 2 and Dyan Coronacion, 226-205, in the first
round. Catalan had earlier defeated Alexis Sy, 191-161, in the
second semifinal match.
