Mayor Alfredo Lim of Manila on Thursday ordered that inspections of
gasoline stations be stopped as the city government directed the
transfer of 42 license and tax examiners from the City Treasurer’s
Office to the Bureau of Permits to help the bureau in its assessment
of business taxes and permits.
Lim met with over 20 operators of Petron Corp.
gasoline stations operating in Manila who complained about frequent
robberies and holdups in the stations, the need for a uniform
application of business permits and the traffic situation in the
areas near the stations.
The mayor asked the operators to submit a
uniform position paper, which he will hand down to concerned
agencies in City Hall so that each issue will be properly addressed.
The Petron gasoline operators called on Lim,
complaining that “they could no longer afford the frequent visits
by people from Manila’s business permits office, who even claim
that they overlook certain requirements of their licenses, and which
result in interruption in their business transactions.”
The group said it will discuss its various
concerns and submit the position paper to the mayor before the end
of July.
Lim also instructed Nelson Alivio, Business
Permits Director, and City Treasurer Erlinda Marteja to jointly come
up with a simplified and uniform application form for business
permits so that businesses will no longer have to be “visited”
by the inspectors often.
