THE country’s mixed martial arts experts show their wares in the
Colt 45 Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) XII
“Supremacy” starting at 8 p.m. Saturday at the A. Venue Events
Hall in Makati City.
The main card features the superfight between
welterweight champion Eduardo Folayang of Lakay Wushu, a gold
medalist in the Southeast Asian Games (SEAG), and middleweight
champion Caloy Baduria of Elorde MMA.
Baduria defeated all his opponents by technical
knockout. His last victim was Guam’s best fighter Frank Camacho.
The victory over Camacho earned him his first and, so far, only
Superfight title. His lone loss was inflicted by former URCC
champion Alan Co.
Folayang, a SEA Games medalist, stopped the only
man to beat Baduria to win the welterweight title.
Folayang’s teammate, Kevin Belingon seeks to
defend his flyweight title against undefeated Magellan “Bimbi”
Perez of Elorde MMA in the other match of the event sponsored by
Pony, No Fear, Yoshinoya, E-Games and Pagcor Venezia VIP Club.
Belingon dethroned Richard Lasparilla two years
ago and retained the title over Yaw-yans Roldan Cartagena by arm bar
submission last year.
Bantamweight champion Lino “The Terminator”
Tagacay and Justin Cruz of FOKAI Guam, a purple belt in Brazilian
jiu-jitsu, are also seeing action in the tournament supported by
Absolute Zro, Optimum Nutrition, VRP Medical Center, Domino’s
Pizza and media partners Solar Sports, Jact TV, Rogue Magazine,
Maxim, Magic 89.9, Wave 89.1 and NU 107.
Tagacay, a former national boxer who trained
under a Cuban coach, vowed to keep his title. “I worked hard to be
in top shape for my title-defense. I’ll do my best to win.
