IN an effort to boost its bid to host the 2010 Palarong Pambasa, the
provincial government of Davao del Norte announced the construction
of a world-class sports complex in Tagum City.
Philippine Sports Commission Chairman William
Ramirez said the new complex will be built in a 12-hectare property
across the provincial capitol in Barangay Mankilam.
“This early, I can say that we will be
endorsing the new sports complex as regional training center for our
athletes. We are all excited to see the outcome,” said Ramirez,
who attended the public presentation of the project along with Sen.
Pia Cayetano and Gov. Rodolfo del Rosario on July 1.
The sports complex will be a combination of
technical and architectural evolution with the newest technology and
athlete-friendly features designed by an Australia-based
architectural firm.
Besides Palarong Pambansa, the new complex is
also being eyed to host the BIMP-EAGA Friendship Games, Mindanao
Friendship Games and Philippine National Games.
Meanwhile, Ramirez said China has P1 million for
the construction of a boxing gym.
