Extreme sports enthusiasts flocked to Fort Bonifacio
in Taguig City on June 29 to watch the Drop Zone parachuting
exhibition, which promoted the 2008 WWA World Championships
wakeboarding competition slated July 1 to 6 at the Camarines Sur
Watersports Complex.
The Drop Zone paragliding and
base-jumping exhibitions featured aerial stunts by Mike Steen,
Carlson Klein and Patrick Kaye of the renowned Ozone Team. They made
landfall at the Recreational Outdoor Exchange (ROX) on Bonifacio
High Street.
Drop Zone brought aerial extreme
adventure sports to the ROX to support the CWC tournament and
promote the Bicol Region – particularly Camarines Sur—as the
extreme sports capital of Asia.
“We have seen a lot of water
and land sports,” Governor LRay Villafuerte of Camarines Sur said,
adding that “now is the time to showcase aerial adventure
sports.”
“By showing the public what
thrills extreme sports can bring them, we seek to boost the already
considerable tourist attractions of Camarines Sur and the Bicol
region by providing a world-class venue for extreme sports, whether
the sports are up in the air or in the water,” Villafuerte said.
Extreme sports experts also spoke
about aerial extreme sports and extreme watersports like
wakeboarding and wakeskating and shared world-standard safety
guidelines for their extreme sports of choice with the audience at
the Drop Zone event.
