DENNIS Orcollo posted two victories Friday to stay in
the hunt in the Qatar Open 9-Ball Championship at the Qatar
Billiards and Snooker Federation in Al Muntazah Road in Doha, Qatar.
The world’s top ranked player
trounced countrymen Warren Kiamco, 11-6, and Ramil Gallego, 11-9, in
the Last 16 and quarterfinals, respectively.
Joining him in the Final Four
were former world champion Ralf Souquet of Germany, reigning US Open
9-Ball kingpin Shane Van Boening of the US and top European player
Neils Feijen of the Netherlands.
Orcollo will face Souquet in the
semifinals.
The German beat fellow ex-world
champ Alex Pagulayan in the quarterfinals, 11-9. He posted a similar
11-9 triumph over Darren Appleton of Great Britain in the Last 16.
Van Boening beat Radoslaw Babica
of Poland, 11-10, and Thomas “The Lean Machine” Engert of
Germany, 11-9, while Feijen trounced reigning world junior champion
champion Ko Pin-yi of Taiwan, 11-8, and Naoyuki Ooi of Japan, 11-7.
The tournament offers $40,000 to
the champion, $20,000 to the runner-up, $10,000 each to the losing
semifinalists, $5,000 each to the losing quarterfinalists, $2,500 to
the Last 16 casualties, and $1,200 each to those who bowed out in
the Last 32.
