Modern & Contemporary Philippine Art: A
Group Show opens at the main gallery of Galerie Joaquin, 371 P.
Guevarra Street corner Montessori Lane, Addition Hills, San Juan on
July 12, 7 p.m. and will run until July 23. Preview for buyers and
collectors starts July 6.
Featured are 55 artworks. Other artists featured
include Aldrino Abes, Bayani Ray Acala, Karina Baluyut, Amador
Barquilla, Jovan Benito, Ferdie Cacnio, Michael Cacnio, Glenn and
Odette Cagandahan, Nell Campos, Jigger Cruz, Joselito Dayono,
Vincent de Pio, Chubern di Loretto, Gerri Dueñas, Lois Goff, Aileen
Lanuza, Carlo Magno, Jerry Morada, Carlo Ongchangco, Mario Parial,
Jaspher Penuliar, Aljo Pingol, Eufemio Rasco 4th, Dominic Rubio, Gil
Sakay, Juanito Torres, Edwin Tres Reyes and Lydia Velasco.
Included in the show is a 24’ x 36’ Luz work
of three nude women in black and ochre, Alcuaz’ entitled Two Moon
Series, HR Ocampo’s Abstraction, two pieces from Mario Parial’s
new collection, and two works by Ramon Orlina titled Torso and Tides
of Fortune III.
Works also include Eufemio Rasco 4th’s The
Sentinel, Jaspher Penuliar’s The Foretelling of Optimism, Jerry
Morada’s Line Between Surprise and Discovery, Jovan Benito’s A
Man and a Woman and Edwin Tres Reyes’s When it Rains, it Pours.
According to Arlene Sta. Ana, the curator of the
project, “in the light of the auction fever currently sweeping the
Southeast Asian art market, what we tried to do is put together a
collection of auction worthy artworks not only from the masters or
important artists who are already included at auction. We also tried
to select artworks by artists who due to their talent, we believe in
no time at all will be gaining international recognition.”
