The modern masters mix it up
with today’s young hotshots

See works by revered artists such as HR Ocampo, Arturo Luz, Juvenal Sanso, Ramon Orlina and Federico Aguilar Alcuaz stand side by side with today’s promising hot painters who now command prestige and high prices at international auction houses.

Modern & Contemporary Philippine Art: A Group Show opens at the main gallery of Galerie Joaquin, 371 P. Guevarra Street corner Montessori Lane, Addition Hills, San Juan on July 12, 7 p.m. and will run until July 23. Preview for buyers and collectors starts July 6.

Featured are 55 artworks. Other artists featured include Aldrino Abes, Bayani Ray Acala, Karina Baluyut, Amador Barquilla, Jovan Benito, Ferdie Cacnio, Michael Cacnio, Glenn and Odette Cagandahan, Nell Campos, Jigger Cruz, Joselito Dayono, Vincent de Pio, Chubern di Loretto, Gerri Dueñas, Lois Goff, Aileen Lanuza, Carlo Magno, Jerry Morada, Carlo Ongchangco, Mario Parial, Jaspher Penuliar, Aljo Pingol, Eufemio Rasco 4th, Dominic Rubio, Gil Sakay, Juanito Torres, Edwin Tres Reyes and Lydia Velasco.

Included in the show is a 24’ x 36’ Luz work of three nude women in black and ochre, Alcuaz’ entitled Two Moon Series, HR Ocampo’s Abstraction, two pieces from Mario Parial’s new collection, and two works by Ramon Orlina titled Torso and Tides of Fortune III.

Works also include Eufemio Rasco 4th’s The Sentinel, Jaspher Penuliar’s The Foretelling of Optimism, Jerry Morada’s Line Between Surprise and Discovery, Jovan Benito’s A Man and a Woman and Edwin Tres Reyes’s When it Rains, it Pours.

According to Arlene Sta. Ana, the curator of the project, “in the light of the auction fever currently sweeping the Southeast Asian art market, what we tried to do is put together a collection of auction worthy artworks not only from the masters or important artists who are already included at auction. We also tried to select artworks by artists who due to their talent, we believe in no time at all will be gaining international recognition.”
