CEBU City: The Cebu Provincial Bus Operators Association announced
an additional 10-centavo increase in bus fare starting July 15,
reported Panay News over the weekend.
Association President Nick Villahermosa told
Panay News this will be added to the existing P1.10 per kilometer
rate.
The continuous increase in the price of
petroleum products is again the reason for the fare hike.
Villahermosa appealed to the riding public for
understanding.
“We are only implementing the 10-centavo
increase granted by the Land Transportation Franchising and
Regulatory Board [Ltfrb-7] in 2004,” Villahermosa said.
Villahermosa owns the Natalie Bus Liner with
some 300 buses operating in Cebu. He said there is no need to seek
petition with Ltfrb-7. They just need to submit a notice for the
intended implementation of the approved fare hike.
On July 15, the official bus fare will be P8.50
for the first five kilometers and an additional P1.20 for every
succeeding kilometer.
Villahermosa assured they will always grant the
20 percent discount to senior citizens and students.
“What we are asking is still less of what we
are supposed to collect,” Villahermosa said.
But he warned of more fare increase with the
current trend of rising oil prices. The three major oil companies in
the country have announced that the weekly pump prices of petroleum
products may continue until August. This is brought about by the
spike in oil prices in the world market.
