CEBU CITY: Richum Dennison came up big as the University of Visayas
Green Lancers defeated Han Yang University of Korea, 83-77, Saturday
in the 6th Asian University Basketball Championships at the New Cebu
City Coliseum here.
Dennison fired 17 points, nine from beyond the
arc, to spark the balanced offensive of the locals.
Vonifer Villanil provided the spark off the
bench with 15 points while big man and crowd darling Gregory
Slaughter also contributed 15. Victor Diputado rounded out the
double-digit scorers of the Green Lancers with 10.
The Green Lancers led by as many as 18 points
late in the third period, 60-42, but the Koreans refused to just
roll over and die.
Song Chong Yon paced Han Yang with 33 points.
Meanwhile, the Huaquiao University of China
defeated the Angeles University Foundation, 87-74, for their first
win in the tournament sponsored by Burlington, Wilson, Everlast,
Summit Mineral Water, Philippine Star and Fortuna Hotel.
